Alliances That Built America (FCPS Grades 7–12)
A Student Essay Contest for America250
Building on the success of the inaugural Bernardo de Gálvez Essay Contest in partnership with the Embassy of Spain, the Langley World Affairs Club proudly introduces its next chapter—the Alliances That Built America Essay Contest.
This student-led contest invites Fairfax County Public Schools students in grades 7–12 to explore how global alliances shaped the birth and growth of the United States and continue to guide its role in the world today. Through research, reflection, and writing, students will rediscover the power of cooperation among nations—past, present, and future.
By participating, students will:
Explore how international alliances helped build and define the American story.
Analyze historic friendships among nations that shaped the nation’s founding and identity.
Reflect on how diplomacy and collaboration continue to secure peace and progress.
Strengthen their skills in research, writing, and critical thinking.
Awards will be followed by a 2026 ceremony aligned with America250, celebrating 250 years of American independence and the global partnerships that made it possible.
This initiative reflects the Langley World Affairs Club’s founding mission—to connect classrooms with the world, engage directly with diplomats and global leaders, and empower students to lead through curiosity and collaboration.
